Cupid and Psyche

portfolio

Cupid and Psyche by Anthony Van Dyck in Buckingham Palace, London - Psyche was so beautiful that people thought that she must be the Goddess of love Aphrodite. The crowds for worshippers no longer frequented the Temples of Aphrodite. She became jealous and ordered her son Cupid to shoot Psyche with an arrow so that she would fall in love with the ugliest and meanest man in the world. Startled by Psyche's beauty as she slept, Cupid shot himself in the foot with his arrow and fell in love with her. After many hardships and trials put on her by Aphrodite, Psyche marries Cupid and becomes immortal.
